Most people would say that Bandon or even The Oregon Coast in general, is pet friendly, but when I speak to some of the people who call us looking for a rental home, they are almost desparate and are willing to settle for anything because no one will accept their dog or dog(s). Just this week, one family shared their experiences looking and told me that one property management company wanted to charge a $1000 deposit for them to accept their dog.

This is a sensitive subject for me…there are too many homeless pets in the world. According to ASPCA statistics, approximately 5 million to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year, and approximately 3 million to 4 million are euthanized (60 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats).

As a professional property manager, I do respect owners wishes to not accept pets when necessary, but do try to promote that we are a pet friendly management firm. We have a pet deposit requirement and must have owner approval to accept more than two pets in one home.

I just want to say FOR THE RECORD, it is usually not the pet that is the cause of damage to a home, it is the people that own the pet. I have seen much more damage by people than by pets.
