In the late 1800s, this river functioned as the main transportation route through the valley. Steamers, log rafts, and freight moved between communities like Myrtle Point, Riverton, Prosper, and Bandon.

Today, that same access supports boating, paddling, and fishing, but the setting still reflects its history as a working river corridor.
